For councils & local authorities

Walkers are spotting street issues. Let’s get them to you.

OtterWay walkers flag fly-tipping, broken streetlights and hazards in a few taps, pinned to the exact spot with the time logged automatically. Today we hand them a link to your form. Working together, we could send you the whole report.

Where a walker’s report goes today

When a walker taps Report › Street issue, OtterWay asks what it is, then points them to whoever sorts it out. Emergencies always go to 999 first. Everything marked blue could come straight to you.

  • The OtterWay report sheet “What’s here?” with Street issue selected and Fly-tipping picked from a list that also includes Broken streetlight, Something in the road, Person needs help, Fire or smoke and Something else.

  • The “Who sorts this out?” sheet for fly-tipping: Your local council, an Open the council’s form button, a Pin it for other walkers switch, and Save and pin.

What you’d get

Right now, the best you can see is a visit to your form, and only if the walker finishes it. As partners, we can send you the report itself.

  • Today

    • A visit to your online form, if they open it
    • The walker retypes the location by hand
    • No idea how many people saw the same thing
    • You don’t hear when it’s cleared
  • As partners

    Full report
    • Issue type, chosen from a clear list
    • Exact pin and time, logged automatically
    • Photo and a short note, if the walker adds them
    • “Still there?” checks from walkers passing later
    • Repeat reports grouped into one, so no duplicates
    • Walkers mark it cleared, so you see it close

Benefits

Why councils get involved

Reporting becomes part of a walk, not a chore, so you hear from people who wouldn’t normally fill in a form.

  • More residents reporting

A few taps mid-walk, with the location filled in. Less effort means more reports, from more people.

  • Reports you can act on

Pinned, timed and categorised, ready to drop into your existing workflow.

  • Fewer duplicates

Ten walkers passing one pile of rubbish becomes one report with ten confirmations.

  • Know when it’s done

Walkers mark issues as cleared, so you can close the loop and show it.

  • Spot patterns early

See where walkers flag poor lighting, dumping or places that feel unsafe, street by street.

  • Support active travel

Every report helps walkers choose greener and safer routes, backing your walking and wheeling goals.

How we’d work together

Start with a conversation, not an invoice

We want to build this with councils, not sell to them. The first two steps cost nothing.

  1. Step 1: Talk

Tell us how your team takes reports today. We’ll point OtterWay straight to the right form, inbox or system for your area.

    Free
  2. Step 2: Pilot together

Pick a ward, a high street or a walking route. Reports come to your team with full detail, plus a monthly summary. You help shape what we build next.

    Free
  3. Step 3: Street insights

Once it’s proven useful: anonymised, combined data on walking issues across your area, from walkers who’ve agreed to share it. This is the paid part.

How walker data is handled

  • People are never put on the map

Reports about a person go to 999, StreetLink or NHS 111. Nothing about them is saved or shared.

  • Walkers choose what’s sent

A report only reaches you when the walker sends it, pinned to that one spot.

  • Insights are anonymised

Street insights are combined across many walks, with no names or personal details, and only from walkers who’ve agreed.

  • 999 always comes first

OtterWay isn’t an emergency service. Anything dangerous goes to 999 before anything else.
